Liza Richardson

Music Supervisor / DJ

Musical chameleon Liza Richardson's career has spanned radio, music supervision for film and TV, and music catalog revitalization.

Liza's radio broadcast career began in Dallas, TX, first at KNON then KERA. In the early 90s, she landed at NPR's flagship KCRW in Santa Monica, CA where, for 30 years, she championed poetry, international music, jazz, dance music and eclectic sounds from all corners of the globe. Her curated mixtapes are available via her Spotify profile.

Along with her team at Mad Doll Music, Liza has music supervised small screen classics such as Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, The Leftovers, Watchmen, Hawaii Five-0, Lovecraft Country, Narcos, Station Eleven, Barry, Outer Banks, The Rookie and Griselda. Other credits include the first handful of iPod silhouette ads as well as films Lords of Dogtown, Surf’s Up, A Dog's Purpose, The Kids Are All Right and quintessential Mexican gem Y tu mamá también.

In 2003, Liza was nominated for a Grammy for compiling the soundtrack to Y tu mamá también. 2020 brought an Emmy nod for her work on Watchmen and in 2021 she was nominated again for Lovecraft Country. She's been recognized by her peers with five awards from The Guild of Music Supervisors.

Ansonia Records, the legendary independent catalog of Latin and Caribbean music from the 1950s to 80s, is under Liza's stewardship. Since 2020, Ansonia has been reissuing catalog gems and releasing new music, including the latest from Bogotá's Meridian Brothers.

Liza is from Phoenix, AZ, holds a BFA in theater and dance from SMU in Dallas, TX, and has called Los Angeles home for over 30 years. Find her on Instagram @lizarichardson
